WB-1010

WB -1010

WB-1010 (stands for Wright Brothers) also calls it the Spruce Whale (named after the famous Spruce Goose) is a concept design of aircraft by the designer Reindy Allendra. This is the design that won the plane-design competition organized by KLM as part of the airline’s 85th anniversary celebration.

The theme of the competition was to design an aircraft that could be used 85 years from now. Reindy Allendra feel that overpopulation would be the biggest problem of the world in the next 85 years later. He design the WB-1010 airplane to overcome the problem. He use the animal of whale as his subject matter because he think that blue whale is one of the most beautiful mammal on the planet.

Reindy Allendra design the concept plane in use of yet-to-be-invented materials and technology and aims to meet the demands the world 85 years from now will make. The body of WB-1010 made of materials similar to GLARE (“GLAss-REinforced” Fibre Metal Laminate (FML)), composed of several very thin layers of metal (usually aluminium) interspersed with layers of glass-fibre “pre-preg”, bonded together with a matrix such as epoxy.

The features of WB-1010 include:
Seats provide more than 1500 people
Speeds can reach nearly 1000 kmph
Helium injected in the body to make the plane lighter
Windows are made of “Smart Glass”
Able to harvest wind energy in flight
Super jet that will allow the plane to land on a normal runway or completely vertically

What is futuristic design?Actually the futuristic designs  would be exist someday in this world or maybe not.
Futuristic design has a close relative to the science (or science fiction) because when a designer is going to design something for future like 100 years later has to be a thing which could be stable during these day so designer need to know about the science.

Reindy Allendra, born on 10 October 1985 in Bandung-Jawa Barat, Indonesia. He is a product and concept designer who graduated from Swinburne University Majoring in Industrial design or Product design.

In the age of 24, Reindy Allendra won a plane-design competition organized by KLM as part of the airline’s 85th anniversary celebration.

This is the reason why we choose to talk about Reindy Allendra as he achieve the honor in very young of his lifetime.

Almost hundred sketches done by him and finally come out a concept of whale design. He said that ” blue whales are one of the most beautiful mammals on the planet. It was either that or an elephant”.

Reindy Allendra find his inspiration and develop his imagination through the whole process of designing. Design competitions, like the one on futuristic planes, inspire designers like Reindy Allendra to come up with fresh ideas and go beyond his boundaries.
Sometimes, although feel like concept or futuristic design is a field that doesn’t guarantee that the creation will work, but Reindy Allendra keep on working in this as  it is the challenge of being able to create something without being limited by any norms but adopt with existing technology. He sometimes found his inspiration in movie such as the tracking device in James Bond movies.

He start to draw and sketch since he was small. Sketch every time when inspiration come. The basic of to be a successful designer is to practice and practice all the time.

“ What I used to draw on my notebooks, that inspired me to become who I am now and not what I was learning in school. ” by Reindy Allendra.
